The overall opera- tions and maintenance costs of the hybridized die- sel stations will reduce significantly as the diesel component will only be a backup while the renew- able energy will provide the base load. This will in- crease the REREC’s Corporation’s contribution to clean energy from 60.498 MWp in 2022 to 78.870MWp, for environmental sustainability. As such, the hybridization of the diesel stations will not only have a direct economic benefit to the economy but also contribute greatly to the mitiga- tion of climate change. This will also enhance its opportunities offered under carbon financing and the green energy climate fund. The current area un- der irrigation is approximately 4,942 acres, against an estimated irrigation potential of 30,000 acres. The projected irrigation water requirement at full development is approximately 1.34 million cubic meters per day, while domestic water demand is estimated at 17,280 cubic meters per day, bringing the total projected daily water demand to approxi- mately 1.4 million cubic meters. In addition, the | | | | 1st approval- The Project Concept Notes were ap- proved on in March 2026, for the projects to pro- gress to Feasibility Study. Procurement of Transaction Advisor (TA) – RFP for TA procurement was published on 10th March 2026 and closed on 13th May 2026. The evaluation of the bids is underway. |

Key Project Details Project Description Estimated Status as of 30th June 2026 (Summary) Project Value (KES Bn) project incorporates a 10 MW hydropower compo- nent and opportunities for fisheries and tourism development around the reservoir. To meet these demands, the project proposes construction of a 53-metre-high rockfill dam along the Kerio River with an estimated storage capacity of approxi- mately 400 million cubic meters (MCM). The dam will be supported by approximately 20 Kilometers of primary canal infrastructure to con- vey irrigation water to command areas. (iii) Soin Koru Dam and Irrigation Development Project The Proposed Soin Koru Dam is located on River Nyando at the boundary between Kericho and Ki- sumu Counties at approximately latitudes 0° 13’ S and 0° 11’ S and longitudes 35° 13’ E and 35° 16’ E. The project targets to Supply potable water to both counties, irrigate about 27,000 acres in Ki- sumu County, generate Hydroelectric power and Control flooding downstream. The target irrigation area spans Muhoroni, Chemilil, Existing Ahero and West Kano schemes. The proposed dam is a zoned rock-fill structure with an impervious core. The dam wall is 55 me- ters high (including 5m freeboard) from bed level of 1695m and crest length of 1400 meters. The catchment area at the dam location is 1,350 km2 with an estimated annual yield of 242.82 Mm3 (7.7 m3 /s) based on river gauging data between 1956 to 2011.
